#AHT: European Congress of Sexually Transmitted Infections held in Tbilisi

From September 29 to October 1, an international congress on sexually transmitted diseases was held at the Hilton Garden Hotel in Tbilisi sponsored by American Hospital Tbilisi. The 35th Congress of the International Union Against Sexually Transmitted Infections (IUSTI) was held for the first time since the COVID-19 pandemic. Based on the regulations of COVID-19, the congress was held for the first time in a hybrid way – some of the guests visited Tbilisi, and some participated online.

The congress was chaired by Dr. Joseph  (Soso) Kobakhidze, dermatovenerologist at American Hospital Tbilisi, who at the same time has been a member of the IUSTI management board since 2005. The scientific program of the IUSTI Tbilisi Congress was aimed at practicing dermatovenerologists, urologists, gynecologists, pediatricians, and other interested doctors, both throughout Europe and beyond.

“Congress participants emphasized the latest information in dermatovenerology and the challenges we face in our daily work. We have sought to strengthen and promote our practice to introduce our approaches to the problems and challenges of the rising tide of infections to a wider audience. At the congress, we talked about sexually transmitted diseases – syphilis; on human papillomaviruses – HPV; We discussed new diagnostic tests; We focused on monkeypox, which spread to 12 member countries of the World Health Organization after the coronavirus in the spring of this year. At the congress, we also discussed – antimicrobial resistance; implementation of guidelines; genital dermatology and aesthetics; Correlation between venereology and other specialties”, said Dr. Joseph Kobakhidze.

The next international congress on sexually transmitted diseases will be held next year in Malta, then in Croatia and Greece.
